Wood County schools announce times and dates for summer meal program [Video]

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – Thursday morning Wood County Schools announced the times and dates for their annual summer meal programs.

The programs will start June 17 and the latest date will last through August 9. The meal program is funded through the USDA and will provide nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack to students under 18.

Although Wood County is partnered in this program it does not only include Wood County students, anyone under the age of 18 will be allowed a meal.

Child Nutrition Director, Hollie Best, says over 1500 meals are served to children in need of meals during the summer months when school is out and they can’t rely on school meals.

This program will be a benefit to the students but it will also bring relief to the parents struggling to put food on the table.
