SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Community members on WIC benefits can now apply for extra benefits to use at farmers markets this summer. The program just opened.

Families can get an extra $20 per person to utilize at participating vendors at farmers markets to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

“The Missouri WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program is the partnership between the Missouri Department of Agriculture and Missouri WIC, and Springfield-Greene County is one of 28 WIC agencies that are participating in Missouri. So what it does is it provides funds for active WIC members to purchase eligible foods from authorized vendors at farmers markets,” said Tara Williams, WIC coordinator for Springfield-Greene County.

It’s simple to sign up. You just need to go by your local WIC office.
