Why participating in Cancer Trials is important? [Video]

It’s Cancer Research Awareness Month and I’d like to take this opportunity to clear a common myth circling around clinical trials. I have often come across patients, who are extremely scared of participating in trials as they feel, that they are being experimented with.

It’s important to understand that trials are conducted in phases. If I specifically talk about Cancer trials, the 1st level is always done on animals, before humans, to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the drug. Unless it is safe and has the right impact, it is not introduced at all.

One classic example is a drug named Imatinib 400 mg that was introduced in the year 2000. All those who participated in the trial, they are thankfully surviving even today, after 23 years. The scenario would have been very different, otherwise. Watch my latest podcast Onco Talks for more!
