The popular weight-loss drug Wegovy seems to benefit more women than men when it comes to obesity-related heart disease.

That’s according to a new study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Researchers found that Wegovy (semaglutide) use led to higher weight loss in women.

The condition observed in the study is known as heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. When failure occurs the heart pumps less efficiently and slows delivery of oxygen-rich blood to the entire body.

Heart failure occurs when the heart starts to pump less efficiently, slowing the delivery of oxygen-rich blood throughout the body.

Women lost an average of 9.6% of their weight, compared with 7.2% in men.
