Wear Orange Weekend kicks off for Gun Violence Awareness Month [Video]

CHICAGO — Friday is the official kick off to Gun Violence Awareness Month and Wear Orange Weekend.

The Wear Orange campaign was started in memory of Hadiya Pendleton who was just 15-year-old when she was shot and killed not long after performing at President Obama’s second inauguration in 2013.

Delphanie Cherry lost two children to gun violence yet continues to help her community through her foundation, ‘One Aim Illinois.’

One Aim Illinois and other victims of violence are pushing for several pieces of new state laws to help reduce gun violence and help families Black and Brown families who have been disproportionately affected by it.

“We have seen the progress that has been made over the years, but we are not satisfied. Survivors for the fight that we want to see,” Yolanda Androzzo from One Aim Illinois said.
