Virtua unveils cutting-edge robotic surgery system [Video]

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Doctors at Virtua Hospital in Marlton are using a new state-of-the-art robotic surgery system they say will help patients recover faster. It’s the only device like it in the area.

This is the newest and most advanced robotic surgery technology in the world, Virtua says, and the DaVinci 5 system is only available at 100 hospitals nationwide. It offers 150 upgrades over the previous model.

Virtua Robotics Director Jackie Wills says one of the most important improvements is an AI training program that gives doctors feedback on each movement they make.

“Which also is a great feature for the residents that we train because they will also have access to review their kinesthetic movements to help them improve after each and every case that they do.”

Virtua Marlton Dr. Michael Winter says this gives surgeons like him more control and the ability to be even more precise than before.
