THE Health Service Executive has issued a major warning over a beauty routine that comes with a “significant” cancer risk.
As the weather improves and the evenings get brighter in Ireland, people are looking to top-up their tan for summer.
The HSE has warned that sunbeds can increase the risk of cancer by 20 per cent and they can cause irreversible damage to the eyes and the skin.
They wrote on X: “People who use a sunbed at any stage in their life, have a 20 per cent higher risk of developing melanoma than those who never use a sunbed.”
Skin cancers are on the rise in Ireland as over 13,000 new cases are diagnosed every year, and major action is needed to bring down the caseload.
