Understanding what cancer is | Treatment options

Cancer is formed when cells divide uncontrollably (unchecked). Every cell has DNA which consists of genes. Genes tell cells how to behave. When the genes are mutated or damaged, the cells go rogue and stop taking instructions from the DNA. They divide unchecked and form cancer (tumor). Cancer can be localized or metastatic (i.e. spread). Before treatment is genomic testing. Treatment options include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, targeted drug therapy and immunotherapy.
