The UltraClear laser can be used to target sun-damaged skin, remove pre-cancerous cells, and reduce the risk of developing skin cancer.

TAMPA, Fla. — May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer because of its likeliness to spread if not detected and treated early.

While prevention by protecting yourself against the sun, using sunscreen, and regular skin checks is crucial, more and more doctors are using laser technology to protect against skin cancer as well. We stopped by Dr. John Sosa’s office in South Tampa.

“There’s evidence out there that we can possibly reduce the skin cancer risk by decreasing photodamage or the sun-induced damage in the skin,” he said.
