Trails Carolina license permanently revoked by NCDHHS [Video]

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has revoked Trails Carolina’s license after a 12-year-old boy was found dead in February.

The revocation takes place 60 days after May 17th, citing violations in multiple general statutes covering medication requirements, rights within a 24-hour facility, indecent response requirements, a least restrictive alternative, and protection from harm, abuse, neglect or exploitation.

The camp does have the option to file a petition for a contested case hearing. The camp must file a petition within 60 days in order to contest the revocation.

The revocation of Trails Carolina’s license comes after camp staff met with NCDHHS in April to review violations the state agency found against the camp during a survey. Half a dozen rulings and fines from NCDHHS were upheld.
