Time is of the essence when it comes to accessing Alzheimers treatments | Opinion [Video]

I recently retired as an LPN after 45 years caring for patients with dementia, specifically Alzheimer’s. I have seen firsthand the dire consequences of this disease.

From memory loss to changes in mood, increased confusion, disorientation, and gradual speech loss, Alzheimer’s undoubtedly takes a devastating toll on the well-being of patients and their loved ones.

Fortunately, with breakthroughs in Alzheimer’s treatments and therapies in the last two years, patients and their families have finally been given a renewed sense of hope that the progression of this deadly chronic disease can be slowed down.

Unfortunately, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced a delay in the review process for the latest innovative drug, which will add to the access delays patients face. While this particular approval process plays out, we must make sure that no additional barriers will prevent patients from accessing the drugs they need.
