Third annual Hispanic summit held by Alzheimers Association [Video]

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) — The Alzheimer’s Association held its third annual Hispanic summit in Lancaster.

Community leaders and caregivers were on site to teach about the disease.

The program was at McCaskey East High School,

It was presented in both English and Spanish.

The association says Hispanics are one and a half more times likely to develop Alzheimers.

“For them to be able to be here and for us to provide that information to them is very important, Frances Gibbons, senior director of development, Alzheimer’s Association, said. “And they’re we’re wanted to be a trusted entity in Lancaster and to let them know that they don’t have to navigate this disease by themselves.”

Many Hispanics have difficulties communicating with doctors due to the language barrier.

One portion of the summit had doctors to help build that relationship.
