FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – After using them during a medical emergency, people often find themselves in possession of medication they no longer need.

When this happens, it can be dangerous to keep those prescriptions around the house.

For that reason, the Fairbanks Police Department (FPD) has a year-round option for those looking to get rid of their unwanted medications.

In the lobby of the department sits a slot for expired and unused medications, available to the public 24/7, all year round. FPD Chief Ron Dupee said, “We really encourage people to bring their unused or expired medication down, drop it in our drop box here.”

The goal is to combat drug problems in Fairbanks by making sure they do not end up in the wrong hands.
