State investigates escalator malfunction at American Family Field [Video]

The Wisconsin State Department of Safety and Professional Services is investigating after an escalator malfunctioned, injuring 11 people, after the Brewers game Saturday. Six people were sent to area hospitals, five others were treated by health professionals at American Family Field, according to a Brewers spokesperson.Patrick Simmons came to Milwaukee with buddies to watch the Chicago Cubs play against the Brewers Saturday afternoon. Simmons was on the escalator Saturday when he said it sped toward the ground.”I felt like everything was rushing towards the ground,” he said. “I felt people, you know, crashing into me. I was crashing into other people.”Brewers Senior Vice President for Communications and Affiliate Operations Tyler Barnes told 12 News that the escalator moving fans from the Terrace to Loge Level malfunctioned, “resulting in an increased downward speed.”The Terrace Level houses the 400-level seats.
