PureGym staff save three members’ lives with defibrillators. Programme is extended to all UK locations [Video]

PureGym has installed defibrillators in all its gyms as part of its Trainsafe safety commitment. The move is part of a partnership with the British Heart Foundation.

Although there is currently no national requirement for gyms to provide automated external defibrillators (AEDs), PureGym first started introducing them 10 years ago and they are now in all sites as part of the company’s Health and Safety policy.

They’ve already been used by staff to save the lives of three members.

In 2022, the low-cost gym operator announced a three-year partnership with the British Heart Foundation with the aim of raising £5 million to fund life-saving research into heart and circulatory conditions.

Through this partnership all of the PureGym defibrillators are registered with the national defibrillator network – called The Circuit – allowing ambulance services to locate the nearest registered defibrillator when a bystander calls 999 in response to a cardiac arrest.
