Pru Gibson spent roughly 24 years of her life suffering debilitating symptoms that were dismissed by doctors, as she desperately searched for answers.

By 40, she’d had enough and insisted on a uterine hysterectomy. What should have been a simple surgery turned into a five-and-a-half-hour operation and confirmation of a condition, she says, she knew she had all along — endometriosis.

“I had no life. I would work and then spend the rest of my time on the lounge, bent over in pain,” she told 7NEWS.

Surgeons discovered during the lengthy surgery that the endometriosis had fused Gibson’s ovary to her bowel.

“It was all over my intestines, it was over my bladder, it was all the way up, encroaching on my lungs. They had to spend all that time scraping it off,” she said.
