Portland Community College vet tech grads get hands-on learning at Oregon Humane Society [Video]

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A group of 25 veterinary technician students are set to graduate from Portland Community College next week after completing a unique, hands-on experience that they hope will better prepare them to fill the gaps in their struggling field.

The community college partnered with the Oregon Humane Society a couple of years ago to allow students five full days of work at the Community Veterinary Hospital each year, so they can experience an environment that’s even more fast-paced than a regular clinic.

“It was nice to be able to experience multiple surgical procedures and have that kind of practice with inducing and intubation, which is not something you can technically get at a general practice,” said Vanessa Terrones, a vet tech student with a background in marine biology.
