The inventor of Polly Pockets, Chris Wiggs, has died at 74, per a report in the New York Post.

Wiggs had recently been diagnosed with a rare form of neurological cancer and passed away peacefully on June 20 at his home in France, surrounded by his family, noted the Post.

Born in East London, Wiggs conceived the idea for Polly Pocket in 1983 during a business trip to New York. His innovative creation — a compact, portable dollhouse— captured the hearts and imaginations of children worldwide and became a significant influence in the toy industry.

The colorful, little self-contained playscape hit the market 1989. Polly Pockets would go on to become one of Mattel’s most successful properties.
