Donna Huie always heard people describe a cancer diagnosis as a “punch to the gut.” She said she never could imagine it fully until May 2020, when she got her own diagnosis.Her breast cancer was only in stage one, but she still needed to have a lumpectomy and more than a dozen rounds of radiation.An extra treatment option presented by her doctor at Novant Health Medical Park Hospital in Winston-Salem was participating in a clinical trial.”He said he felt like that I would be a good candidate for that,” Huie said. “To be honest, at first, I was like, ‘Well, I’m not sure I want to do a trial.'”It was a phase three randomized multi-center trial of the Lumisight drug and Lumicell probe.
