New Mountain Brook Fire Station keeps health and safety as top priority [Video]

MOUNTAN BROOK, Ala. (WBRC) – Mountain Brook City leaders broke ground on the brand new Station No. 2. Monday. It will be located on Overton Road, just a few blocks from the current Station No. 2.

Chief Chris Mullins said one thing unique about the state-of-the-art development is the health and safety component.

He said his staff researched the connection between turnout gear and cancer, so they will have a specific place for crews to put the gear.

“We’ve done so much research over the last few years as far as cancer prevention and education so this is a state of the art station. We’ve got different zones for our turnout gear, and a lot of our carcinogens come from turnout gear. And so we’re separating it from our firefighters.
