EAST PEORIA (25News Now) The Circle of Promise Breakfast was hosted by the Susan G. Komen of Central Illinois Memorial on Saturday at the Par-a-Dice Hotel in East Peoria.
The goal of the breakfast is to discuss important issues surrounding breast cancer.
This year the topic was health equity for black women with breast cancer.
Lisa Hinton, a Peoria native and the Associate Director of the American Cancer Society was the keynote speaker who presented the initial discussion called A Health Equity Revolution: Inequities and Breast Cancer outcomes.
Gayle Young the Executive Director of Susan G. Komen of Central Illinois says since black women are 40 percent more likely to die of breast cancer than white women and a change needs to happen.
“We are working with an event like this to share information that will help us know how to be our own best advocates. We can to empower our community and take action whether it is public advocacy, it’s health care,” said Young.
