Monday Motivations: Dr. Randall Gates and guest Laura Hirsch talk about helping non-speakers communicate [Video]

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – In today’s Monday Motivations segment, Dr. Randall Gates, a board-certified chiropractic neurologist and chiropractic physician, and Laura Hirsch author of ‘More than Meets the Eye’ discuss how to help non-speakers communicate.

Hirsch’s book is based off her own son Trevor and his journey so communicate. Laura and Trevor met Dr. Gates when he started having seizures at 16-years-old. Trevor who has autism has been using the tool spelling to communicate to help. It takes speech from a small motor skill to a large motor skill by having the non-speaker use their arm to pick out letters.

Dr. Gates reveals how someone can singing but not speak, explaining singing comes from the right side of the brain speech is from the let side of he brain and when seeking treatment at Gates Brain Health Dr. Gates asks the question of how do we rehab the brain?
