Former NBA star Michael Kidd Gilchrist stopped by Hampton University today and shared his story with families at the Peak Childhood Center.
HAMPTON, Va. — Former NBA star Michael Kidd-Gilchrist visited Hampton University to share his story with families at the Peake Childhood Center on Tuesday.
Kidd-Gilchrist said he’s stuttered his entire life and is now on a mission to increase access to speech therapy.
“I don’t know myself without stuttering. So as much as I can say I don’t, I don’t like it, I appreciate it now that I’m older,” Kidd-Gilchrist said.
While visiting, he learned about Peake Childhood Center’s program and what they do regarding speech therapy.
“Hampton University students, they come to our center twice a week during the school semester. And they are able to screen all of our young children to see if they have a need for any assistance to improve their speech and language,” a Peake Childhood Center …
