Mental Health Awareness Month: An 18 News Special [Video]

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The month of May is Mental Health Awareness Month. We here at 18 News wanted to shed some light on the importance of mental health and encourage people to seek help if they need it.

Anyone can struggle with their mental health at any time, and no one should suffer in silence. Mental Health Awareness Month is a time to help people get information about the symptoms of mental illness and encourage them to seek treatment.

The month was established in 1949. One of its goals is to increase conversations about mental health and to try and get rid of the stigma attached to it. During the month of May, 18 News spoke with several doctors, professors, politicians, students and athletes from the Twin Tiers on several different topics relating to mental health awareness.
