Markey Cancer Center expanding global reach, partners with Ukrainian Oncology Dispensary [Video]

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — In September 2023, the University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center joined an elite group, earning comprehensive status from the National Cancer Institute.

Now, the center is looking to continue expanding its global reach.

One way they’re doing this is with a new partnership in May with the Kyiv Regional Oncology Dispensary (KROD) based in Ukraine.

The partnership’s primary focus is research collaboration for cancer prevention and treatment, but for UK there’s more to it than that.

The partnership is Markey’s third international sister center.

In 2020, Markey was a founding member of the Global Cancer Consortium, a group of cancer centers that work to collaborate on research and education initiatives.

Of course, this new partnership goes beyond those initiatives, providing collaborative experiences in staff development, community outreach, and clinical care as well.
