Major new Irish cancer warning over ‘risk at home and abroad’ amid ‘first 10 to 15 years of life’ alert [Video]

HSE chiefs have issued an urgent skin cancer alert to the Irish public and warned: The sun in Ireland can be just as damaging as it is abroad.

Health bosses have warned skin cancers are on the rise in Ireland, and major action is needed to bring down the caseload from around 13,000 annually.

HSE cancer expert Dr Breeda Neville said there’s a common misconception that the sun at home in Ireland is not as dangerous – but warned this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Dr Neville, who works on the HSE National Cancer Control Programme, told the Irish Sun: “People often think the Irish sun is not as harmful, so they only use sunscreen when on holiday but not at home.”
