Lynchburg City School Board enacts new transgender policies [Video]

The Lynchburg City School Board enacted Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s recent policies regarding the treatment of transgender students in a 6-3 vote Tuesday night.

Last year, Youngkin said the guidelines would empower parents while prohibiting discrimination and creating a safe learning environment.

The policies LCS adopted state the division complies with all applicable federal and state nondiscrimination laws; additionally, school personnel shall be trained annually on health and mental wellness support and at the request of parents, the school board should designate an administrator or counselor to speak together with the students’ guardian regarding questions pertaining to gender.

In terms of student records, the policy states that Lynchburg City Schools should maintain an official record for each student that includes the student’s legal name and sex; and should only change the legal name or sex in a student or former student’s official record if a parent or eligible student submits a …
