Lung Cancer: Stages of cancer, Causes, Symptoms and treatment

Welcome to my YouTube Channel Power of knowledge academy. In this video you will learn about Lung Cancer, types of cancer, Causes of Lung cancer, symptoms of lung cancer, stages of lung cancer, diagnosis of lung cancer and treatment of lung cancer.

Lung cancer is one of the most common and serious types of cancer. It occurs when cells in the lungs grow uncontrollably, forming tumors that can interfere with lung function. Here’s a comprehensive overview of lung cancer, including its types, causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options.

Causes and Risk Factors
Several factors can increase the risk of developing lung cancer:

Smoking: The leading cause of lung cancer. Tobacco smoke contains carcinogens that damage lung cells.
Secondhand Smoke: Exposure to secondhand smoke also increases the risk.
Family History: Genetics can play a role in susceptibility.
Air Pollution: Prolonged exposure to polluted air can increase risk.

Symptoms
Lung cancer symptoms can vary and might not appear until the disease is advanced. Common symptoms include:

– Persistent cough that worsens over time
– Chest pain
– Shortness of breath
– Wheezing
– Coughing up blood
– Fatigue
– Unexplained weight loss
– Frequent lung infections (like pneumonia or bronchitis)

Diagnosis
Diagnosing lung cancer involves several steps:
– Physical examination.
– X-rays and CT Scan,
– Biopsy

Stages of cancer
Staging describes the extent of cancer spread and helps determine treatment options. Stages range from I (localized) to IV (metastasized to other parts of the body).

Treatment
Treatment depends on the type, stage, and overall health of the patient. Options include:

Surgery: Removing the tumor and surrounding lung tissue. Types include lobectomy, pneumonectomy, and wedge resection.
Radiation Therapy: Using high-energy rays to kill cancer cells.
Chemotherapy: Using drugs to kill cancer cells or stop them from dividing.
Targeted Therapy: Drugs that target specific molecules involved in cancer growth.
Immunotherapy: Boosts the immune system to fight cancer cells.
Palliative Care: Focuses on relieving symptoms and improving quality of life.
