Louisville Bats sign one-day contract with 12-year-old boy [Video]

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Bats signed 12-year-old Konner Steiner to a one-day contract on Friday.

Steiner was diagnosed with leukemia three years ago and has been undergoing treatment at Norton Children’s Cancer Institute and now he’s scheduled to finish treatment this November.

As pat of his duties with the team, Steiner will meet with Bats players and coaches throughout the day and also participate in on-field promotions during the game.

“We’re super excited to have Konner here with us today,” Louisville Bats manager Pat Kelly said. ” You know, you hear so many times that athletes are role models for kids. I think in this case, this is really in reverse, that Konner, you’re the role model for all of us. You’re such a courageous young man with everything that you’ve battled through. We’re super excited to add you as a member of the Louisville Bats.”
