Local nonprofit aims to collect thousands of shoes to support free medical clinic [Video]

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – His Hands Free Clinic is making an effort to raise money and serve more people in need of medical services. They are hoping to break the world record of most shoes collected, which means they would exceed 250,000 pairs.

Those donations would turn into funding for various patients, patients like Ruby Cheshire. She moved to Cedar Rapids just 8 months ago. In need of medical care, but without insurance, she turned to His Hands Free Clinic; a nonprofit with a mission to offer free health care services to those without various resources.

“I was looking for a place that would see somebody that didn’t have insurance,” said Cheshire. “The staff here is wonderful, very compassionate, caring-type group.”

That’s why she and many other patients are thankful for any donations coming to the clinic.

In less than a week, His Hands Free Clinic and Westminster Presbyterian Church hope to collect more than 250,000 pairs of shoes.
