Western Pa. groups ramp up summer programs to address growing food insecurity.

Kelsey Gross, director of the child nutrition programs at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank tells KDKA Radio why the summer programs are necessary:

“We’ve heard from families”, she says, “that per kid it’s an extra 200-plus dollars a month that people are spending to be able to feed their kids those meals that they were getting at school. And so, summer food programs ensure that kids have adequate nutrition over the summer”.

Gross says any child 18 or younger can get food at no cost by visiting a Summer Youth Cafe site.
