MEDFORD, Ore. – On April 3rd, the Jackson County Animal Shelter was over capacity for dogs. Four days later and after a whole bunch of community support, the shelter is no longer over capacity.
In a press release on Wednesday, Jackson County Health and Human Services said that it had 120 dogs and would be unable to accept or maintain more dogs. The shelter’s normal capacity is around 90 dogs at one time.
By Sunday, they only had two dogs left who were ready to adopt. Jackson County Animal Enforcement Supervisor, Mike Slusarczyk, said it meant so much to see the community and other shelters come together to help them out.
“This is what we call a win, to come in and go from being so crazily overrun, (over) our capacity with animals needing our attention to now coming in and hearing quiet is kind of, kind of unusual,” Slusarzcyk …
