In India alone, around 1,00,000 new cases of oral cancers are registered while 50,000 lose their life every year, which is approximately 1/4th of global incidence.

The current standard of care depends on a physical exam by a healthcare provider, identification of lesion(s), followed by biopsies which will only sample a limited amount of cancer tissue and heterogeneity within the cancer is not taken care of. The risk associated with the biopsy procedure is a hematoma, which can form and collect at the site of the biopsy. There are chances of translocation of cancer cells into circulation, increasing risk of metastasis after biology
