CLEVELAND, Ohio – When the soft mallet touches the Tibetan singing bowls, the sound waves and vibrations are all encompassing.
It’s called a sound bath, and as the name suggests, the technique bathes participants in a variety of soothing sounds meant to promote deep-tissue stimulation and relaxation.
They penetrate thought, forcing the mind inward to self-assessment of the body and the breath. Self-reflection usually follows. Perhaps that’s why the ancient therapeutic technique is becoming a more popular addition to health and wellbeing routines across Northeast Ohio.
Steve Turner is an independent sound healer and yoga instructor bringing the therapy to a wider audience by hosting sound baths throughout the community. He uses vocals, metal and crystal bowls and a variety of other instruments, including guitar, gongs and chimes, to guide participants into a meditative state.
