Global Cleveland Clinic computer issue limited access to some patient records Friday [Video]

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A problem affecting the Cleveland Clinic computer systems limited access to some computerized patient records for two hours on Friday. The problem affected the entire Clinic health system, locally and around the world, the Clinic said Tuesday.

For about two hours Friday morning, some patients and caregivers were unable to log in to MyChart and Epic. The systems continued to run and never completely crashed, according to the Clinic. Hospitals turned to back-up methods, such as using printouts of patient records.

The problem was due to a technical hardware issue that was quickly resolved, and patient caregiving was not affected, the Clinic said.

Surgeries were not affected, the Clinic said.

MyChart is an online tool that allows Clinic patients to see their electronic medical record and test results, message their physician, schedule appointments and more. Patients who were unable to log in to MyChart could make appointments by phone, the Clinic said.
