Garden sale assists local hospice care [Video]

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – For those who are struggling to get their final affairs in order, a little extra compassion can go a long way. That’s the motto of a growing group of local gardeners supporting hospice care in our community and their annual fundraiser made a splash on Saturday.

The Hospice Plant Sale, which benefits those on end-of-life care through the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, draws a crowd every year, according to organizer Monte Landis. Despite the chilly, rainy weather, this year was no different.

“A hundred percent goes to the patient themselves for needs to make the end of their life less stressful,” Landis explained. “It’s all volunteer-run. You know, we’ve taken pets to the vet, we’ve helped pay for funerals, whatever is going to ease their stress.”

Sometimes, these efforts are as simple and profound as installing a new window.
