Fundraiser for young Rocco, a cancer victim, is June 19 in Rossville [Video]

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Young Rocco DiMaggio’s heart wrenching story began on May 12, 2020, when at just 2 years-old, he diagnosed with a pediatric cancer called Neuroblastoma that spread through his bones and bone marrow.

Since that diagnosis, Rocco has shown incredible strength, undergoing five rounds of chemotherapy, 14 rounds of radiation and five cycles of antibody treatments.

He also endured 20 hours of surgery, which included the removal of his kidney and adrenal gland, and completed his seventh vaccine against Neuroblastoma.

Overcome with joy that Rocco was in remission, it was heartbreaking to learn of Rocco’s relapse on March 5, said Julianne Miano, a community advocate who learned of Rocco’s plight.

“The thought of Rocco enduring another round of treatment is unbearable,” she said. “To learn that when relapsing from Neuroblastoma it carries only a 5 percent survival rate, is paralyzing.”
