Funding for resources for crime and abuse survivors across Wisconsin to see major cuts [Video]

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The Victim Resource Unit at the Wausau Police Department and the Women’s Community are striving to address the overlooked needs of survivors of sensitive crimes, aiming to provide them with the attention and care necessary for healing.

“This unit ensures that they can heal from the victimization, and not fall into the gap of re-victimization because of a lack of support,” Wausau Police Department Captain Benjamin Graham said.

Comprising a Crime Response Specialist, a Victim Resource Officer, and a therapist, the unit’s services are becoming more crucial than ever amid dwindling resources.

“Waiting lists for therapy right now are really long,” Jane Graham Jennings, Executive Director of The Women’s Community, said. “For someone who is in a crisis situation, they are afraid they don’t understand what is happening, it’s really nice to have a therapist.”
