Freestore Foodbank gives 60K pounds of food for families in need at Reds Youth Academy [Video]

CINCINNATI (WXIX) -The Freestore Foodbank handed out around 60,000 pounds of food for families in need Friday as a part of the Spring Meal Distribution at the e P&G MLB Cincinnati Reds Youth Academy.

The Spring Meal Distribution is part of a joint venture between the Freestore Foodbank and The System to Achieve Food Equity (SAFE) Network, a subnetwork of a non-profit All Children Thrive aiming to improve food security in Cincinnati.

Michael Truitt with Freestore Foodbank says they were planning to serve 1,000 families Friday but instead served between four to five 5,000 families.

Each box includes two chickens, a frozen box, a dry goods box, and produce.

“The purpose of this event was to look at families who would traditionally get their free and reduced lunch at the schools. Next week is spring break week for most schools, so we’re trying to help supplement those families, get them …
