BURTON, Mich. (WJRT) – A former Burton police officer is facing embezzlement charges.

Brendan Stocker, a former K-9 handler, is accused of allegedly not returning to work after physical therapy, but putting on his time card he was working.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said the charges spurred from a city of Burton investigation. According to court records, Stocker is facing a single felony count of embezzlement as an agent or trustee between $1,000 and $20,000.

“I have charged police officers before, and I will charge them again,” explained Prosecutor Leyton. “Nobody, nobody is above the law.”

The former officer was a K-9 handler of 4-year-old Axl; The K-9 died after a fight with lymphoma in 2023.
