Fire chief surprised with applause, tears after final chemotherapy session [Video]

CORONA, Calif. (KCBS) – A fire battalion chief in California had a life-changing moment.

Corona Fire Battalion Chief Brandon Willson had his final chemotherapy session in his battle against non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma Thursday morning, and he didn’t celebrate it alone.

Applause from his fellow firefighters and lots of tears surprised Willson after his final session.

Willson has been battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma for six months.

His doctors at the City of Hope Hospital said his cancer is in remission. And at his side today were his two young sons, Luke and Gavin, and his wife, Amber.

For the local hero who has repeatedly risked his life for others, this crowd wanted to be there for him.

“Being in the fire service… It’s just like everybody else. You never think it’s going to happen to you,” Willson said. “You know, and my number was picked. July 3 is when they told me. It just reminded me that although the fire service is …
