FDA advisers consider weekly insult shot
Novo Nordisk is seeking approval for a drug called “Insulin Icodec.”
Phase 3 clinical trials found the once a week injection was better at reducing high blood glucose levels, compared to the once daily shot by the same drug maker.
But the weekly injection was associated with a higher incidence of hypoglycemia, which can lead to a loss of consciousness or seizures.
Seven out of 11 advisers voted no on Friday, when asked if they think the benefits of the weekly shot outweigh its risks.
The FDA does not have to accept their input when deciding whether to approve the drug.
