Family, friends hold annual volleyball tournament in memory of Omaha girl who died of cancer [Video]

GRETNA, Neb. (WOWT) – Some people in Gretna enjoyed sun and sand while supporting the fight against childhood cancer Saturday.

The third-annual Taylor Lech Foundation Sand Volleyball Tournament was played in memory of 16-year-old Taylor Lech, who died in 2021 of diffuse midline glioma in her spine.

The event also included a silent auction and cornhole tournament.

Proceeds went toward pediatric cancer research; specifically, the mutation that causes DMG.

“This mutation that can be found in the spine or brain, the prognosis is not good for anyone,” said Taylor’s mother, Janet. “Just knowing that other people are going to get this diagnosis and have to go through it and watch their kid lose their ability to do certain things, it’s just devastating.”

Janet said last year’s event raised around $4,500.
