FACT FINDERS: Do your pets need sunscreen? [Video]

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Sunscreen is an important part of living in Arizona, but does your pet need it, too? Our pets can get sunburn and skin cancer, just like their pet parents. But some dogs and cats are more at risk than others – and it all comes down to fur.

Pets come in all shapes and shades. But the color of your dog or cat – especially its nose, ears, and eyelids – could mean your best bud is predisposed to sunburn.

”Lighter colored dogs and this goes for cats, as well, particularly white animals, they do have a tendency to get sunburned, particularly around the nose and the ear tips,” said Dr. Gary Richter, a veterinarian and author of The Ultimate Pet Health Guide. “If they’re one of those guys that has kind of sparse fur on their belly, if they’re lying outside in the sun, they absolutely can get …
