Exercise as an underutilized tool in cancer care

Rebecca Robinson, MRCP, MBBS, MRFSEM, Marylebone Health Group (CHHP), London, UK, comments on the role of exercise in cancer care, highlighting the importance of physical activity throughout the cancer prevention and treatment continuum. Exercise is associated with a range of benefits for patients with cancer, from increasing fitness and the likelihood of eligibility for treatments to reducing the impact of late effects of therapies, such as neuropathy and cardiotoxicity. Dr Robinson also emphasizes the psychological benefit that empowering patients to exercise can have. A focus should be placed on embedding exercise medicine into clinical practice and ensuring that individuals have adequate access to exercise and physical activity. This interview took place at the 64th Annual Scientific Meeting of the British Society for Haematology (BSH) Congress in Liverpool, UK.
