AUSTIN, Texas — The city of Elgin has unveiled a new wastewater treatment plant that will expand the plant’s capacity as the city continues to grow.

Leaders formally dedicated the new plant, located at 720 W Cleveland St., at a ceremony Saturday. The dedication was done in the memory Doug Prinz, and Elgin native who worked in the city’s water department for 25 years before dying of cancer in 2020.

The $17.6 million expansion of the plant will double capacity, allowing an intake of two million gallons daily. Tom Mattis, Elgin’s City Canager, said he believed the plant will provide the necessary capacity over the next 10 years as Elgin continues to grow.
