Drug Take Back Day to be held nationwide this month [Video]

(WSAW) – National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be held later this month. The goal is to prevent unwanted, unused, and expired medications from getting into the wrong hands, thrown away, or flushed down the toilet.

The event, used to encourage people to apply safe and secure medication disposal options, will be held on Saturday, April 27 at the following locations in the Wausau area:

• Wausau Police Department (515 Grand Ave, Wausau) from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
• Medication and Sharps drop boxes will be available.
• Kronenwetter Police Department (1582 Kronenwetter Dr, Mosinee) is a 24/7 location.
• Rothschild Police Department (211 Grand Ave, Rothschild) is a 24/7 location.

According to the 2022 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, prescription pain relievers were misused by 8.5 million people aged 12 and over, while 4.3 million misused prescription stimulants. Of those who misused prescription medications, 44.6% were given by, bought, or taken from a friend or relative.
