WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Dr. Emily Lieberman and her family survived the mass shooting two years ago at Highland Park during the July 4th parade just outside of Chicago.

“I don’t know if I will ever attend another big parade,” Lieberman said. “I don’t know if my daughters will every go to another parade either.”

Virginia woman helps others recovering from breast cancer

Lieberman got separated from her husband and one of their daughters after shots were fired. She ended up in a single occupancy restroom with 17 other people and stayed there until police said it was safe.

Lieberman made a promise to herself that if she survived, she would work hard to help prevent others from going through that same experience. After that experience, she and her husband started the non-profit, On Call 4 Kids.

The non-profit is an advocacy group made up of physicians and other healthcare professionals. They constantly visit Washington, D.C. to speak to lawmakers …
