Two decades after the late Morgan Spurlock released his controversial McDonald’s documentary, Super Size Me, how much did it truly affect the fast food chain?

Documentary filmmaker Spurlock died aged 53 on Thursday due to complications of cancer, his family announced.

‘Morgan gave so much through his art, ideas and generosity. Today the world has lost a true creative genius and a special man. I am so proud to have worked together with him,’ his brother Craig told Variety.

The late creative rose to fame after he released his 2004 documentary Super Size Me in which he ate McDonalds for all three meals over 30 consecutive days as a commentary on the obesity epidemic across the US.

His diet averaged at around 5,000 calories a day, and he reduced his physical exercise to be in line with the average American. Anytime he was offered to ‘super size’ his meal at checkout, he would opt in for the option.
