Dermatologist shares sunscreen tips ahead of high temperatures [Video]

ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) – We are going to be entering 90-degree territory this upcoming weekend, and it just goes up from there into next week.

In that kind of heat, it’s important to stay safe in the sun, and that means wearing your sunscreen.

“It’s super important to wear sunscreen because that’s one of the ways we prevent skin cancer,” said Dr. Carol Cooper with UK King’s Daughters Dermatology.

Cooper says when choosing your SPF, the higher the sun protection factor, the better.

“The difficulties with the higher the better is you assume that if you get an SPF of 100, that it’ll get you 100 percent protection,” Cooper said. “That hundred doesn’t mean a 100 percent protection.”

That’s why it’s so important to reapply every couple of hours to get the most out of it.
